Jean Nouvel

Fumel (France) - The well-known French architect Jean Nouvel will celebrate his seventieth birthday on August 12, having made his mark in the domestic environment with his work. The holder of the prestigious Pritzker Prize from 2008 has nearly two hundred projects behind him and is also the author of the administrative complex Golden Angel in Prague's Smíchov. One of Nouvel's recent achievements is this year's opening of the new home of the Paris Philharmonic, costing 380 million euros.

The architect, famous for his glass, radiant, and slightly futuristic works, draws inspiration from science fiction films by Ridley Scott, among others. Key works by Nouvel include the Arab Institute building (1981 to 1987), which changes with the light and is located opposite Notre Dame Cathedral in the center of Paris, as well as the optically dematerialized home of the Cartier Foundation (1994) on Boulevard Raspail in Paris.
For his creative experimentation and for building projects that communicate with their surroundings, Nouvel received the Pritzker Prize, the highest award in the field of architecture, in 2008. The jury particularly appreciated his construction of the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis, USA (2006). In recent years, Nouvel has also completed the project for the Paris Museum of Tribal Art on Quai Branly, the design of the Torre Agbar skyscraper in Barcelona, and the Puerta América hotel in Madrid.
