New York - Parking a car next to a penthouse no longer has to be just an enticing idea. This month, on New York's Manhattan, the allegedly most expensive garages in the world, covering 28 square meters, are for sale, unique in that they are adjacent to living spaces in a skyscraper. The price of one is around 700,000 dollars (approximately 13 million CZK), writes the British newspaper The Times. Three weeks ago, a New York architectural firm received permission for the first time in the USA to build garages above the first floor of a residential building. For years, freight elevators have transported trucks up and down in commercial buildings, but safety reasons had so far prevented the same from happening in residential buildings. However, 200 Eleventh Avenue, a new skyscraper overlooking the Hudson River, received the green light to equip 14 of its 16 apartments with their own garages. These will be hidden in the middle of each floor. Residents of the skyscraper will drive into an elevator on the ground floor that will take them to their floor. They will no longer have to wander around the area searching for a parking spot, hauling bags and strollers. The fears of being attacked by criminals at the end of the street are at an end. Aside from two penthouses, one of which is still for sale, prices for other apartments start at 3.65 million dollars (68 million CZK) and go up. According to the designer, 70 percent of the building has already been sold; only three duplex apartments remain available. The apartments range in size from 120 to 325 square meters. Most of the 16 apartments have three bathrooms and three bedrooms. Some of them also have their own terrace. According to estimates by Leonard Steinberg, head of marketing for the real estate firm Prudential Douglas Elliman, a garage attached to an apartment is valued at about 700,000 dollars (approximately 13 million CZK), much more than the price of Manhattan's ground-floor garages, which cost a staggering 200,000 dollars (3.7 million CZK). Apartments in the high-rise 200 Eleventh Avenue, which will be available for occupancy next year, are, according to The Times, beautiful. From all the windows, which are floor-to-ceiling, one side has views of the Hudson River, and the other side has views of the skyscrapers in downtown Manhattan.
