Le Corbusier

More than 40 years after Le Corbusier's death, another of his buildings has been completed. Finishing works are currently taking place on the St. Pierre church in the French town of Firmini, which can boast three other realizations by this giant. LC came to Firmini in the early 1950s at the invitation of the liberal mayor Eugene Claudius-Petit. Construction of the church began six years after LC's death. There were heated debates from the beginning regarding the correctness of the interpretations of details and Le Corbusier's sketches. The church was financed from private sources by the Le Corbusier Foundation. After the contractor for the building went bankrupt, the church, resembling a primitive cave, remained a shell for decades. In 1995, the unfinished church was declared a cultural monument, and in 2001, work began to complete it. However, the building will not serve its original purpose. Info>
