Friedrich Kurrent

The significant Austrian architect with a deeper scope, Friedrich Kurrent, celebrated a beautiful life anniversary yesterday in full strength.
A student of Clemens Holzmeister at the Vienna Academy, co-founder of the legendary creative group Arbeitsgrupe 4, he always distanced himself from superficial “trendy” architecture. He combined a crystalline and natural architectural talent with an unpretentious obsession with the deeper layers of architectural phenomena, with the more serious essence of building. All this in completely modern forms.
Kurrent is valued not only for his own remarkable work but also as a publicist, an informed connoisseur of Adolf Loos. He is also known as a sincere admirer of Czech avant-garde architecture, particularly of Bohuslav Fuchs and Jan Kotěra.

From his works, let us recall:
- Church of the Most Sacred Blood in Salzburg (1953-56)
- Savings Bank in Floridsdorf (1974)
- Cinema Lilion in Augsburg (1987-89)
- Mountain Chapel in Remingstein (1991)
