Last year, an exhibition of small architecture "Wooden Boxes" took place at the Vienna University of Technology, which this year has moved to Salzburg under the guidance of the same curators, Dörte Kuhlmann and Christina Simmel. At today’s opening, ten works by contemporary Austrian and Finnish architects were presented, seeking answers to the demand for small wooden houses through simplicity and minimalism. While summer houses have a long history in Finland, Austria has a somewhat different tradition. The life of Finns is closely connected with simplicity and nature. Summer houses fit discreetly into the landscape. One must also reckon with reduced comfort and learn to live without electricity or hot water.
The exhibition at the Künstlerhaus Salzburg will run until June 2, 2012, when there will be a tour with curator Christina Simmel as part of Architecture Day.
