Peter Zumthor

"It was clear that she was describing a very inner feeling of safety. She talked about the scent of pine wood, the crackling of the fire in the stove, about the unmistakable warmth of wood? I can't remember exactly, but I was left with the feeling that the house she described had that special aura that only solid wood houses have."

The picturesque high mountain valleys of the Swiss canton of Graubünden attract visitors for both winter and summer vacations. Spa guests have been arriving in the valley of Vals since the late 19th century. When Peter Zumthor built his unique spa in Vals, it sparked an unprecedented wave of architectural tourism. Zumthor's wife Annalisa also fell in love with the local valley, for whom her husband built her dream wooden weekend house in 2009. A second identical structure was added to the intimate building in the village of Weiler Leis, located at an altitude of 1500 meters above sea level.
The lower house can be rented since December 2012 for up to five people at a price of 3500-4800 Swiss francs per week. This autumn, a third house for four people will be added to the collection of wooden buildings.
