Directly opposite the pair of towers by Richard Meier, the New York office of Hani Rashid and Lise Anne Couture will realize their first residential building. At 166 Perry Street in Manhattan's West Village, a luxurious eight-story building with 24 lofts and two penthouses featuring pools and terraces will be constructed. Groundwork began last week, and completion is scheduled for fall 2008. The investor is the same firm responsible for Meier's twins on the opposite side of the street. The apartments will be priced between two and twelve million dollars, with services such as a fitness center, twenty-four-hour reception in the lobby, and room service included. Sales of even the not-yet-constructed apartments have already begun.

The very first residential building in the twenty-year history of the Asymptote studio will first attract attention with its sinuous facade resembling a crystal or a frozen waterfall. The reason for such a design of the eastern and western facades of the building is to orient the views from individual apartments and offer various levels of light. In front of the facade on the ground floor, the architects designed a metal grid to protect the duplexes on the first floor from outside views. The main entrance forms an opening reminiscent of Star Trek. The reception on the ground floor also feels like it’s from a science fiction film. The white glossy organically shaped surfaces of the walls smoothly transition into integrated benches made of silver leather. Other materials used are also of the highest quality: brushed aluminum panels, white polished concrete flooring. The ceiling height of the apartments ranges from three to four meters. The kitchen features an artistically sculpted Corian fixture. Link>
