Tomoyuki Kurokawa Architects

In the Tokyo business district of Meguro, young architect Tomoyuki Kurokawa has built his own house, where he can run his practice and also live together with his employees, clients, and students. On the ground floor of the completely built-up plot, there is an entrance foyer that can be used for lectures. Deeper on the ground floor, there is an office with six workstations, from which there is access to the backyards with wooden terraces and a pair of trees. On the first floor, there is a meeting room and student rooms. Above them are three residential units sharing half a floor, and on the top floor, the architect has his own loft. Despite the overall spatial constraints, the communication areas are generously designed, and there is consideration for frequent gatherings of the house's residents. The outdoor spaces consist of exposed concrete alternating with white plastered walls and wooden floors.
