Bratislava residents are selecting the color of the Old Bridge online

Bratislava - The residents of Bratislava are choosing the color design of the Old Bridge online, which is currently undergoing extensive reconstruction. They can choose one of three color proposals - green coating, gray, and a combination of green and gray. Voting, which is possible via the metropolitan web portal, ends on February 17.
The green color, according to the designers, is supposed to create a historical and conservative impression, as the iron bridge previously had a green finish. The gray, on the other hand, is intended to reveal the new supporting structure, while the combination of both colors will highlight the main structural elements of the bridge. The outcome of the public vote will be addressed by city councilors, who will ultimately decide on the final appearance.
The landmark of Bratislava was named after the Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph until the end of World War I, then it was named after one of the founders of Czechoslovakia, Milan Rastislav Štefánik, and after World War II it was named the Red Army Bridge. Construction of the bridge began in 1889, and it was opened by the emperor two years later.
Currently, the bridge, which was in a state of emergency, is closed and workers are dismantling it, which should be completed by this spring. Afterwards, a new structure intended for tram operation will span the Danube using the existing pillars. It is expected that the bridge will be opened to traffic in mid-2015.
