Paris - The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization yesterday added ten buildings designed by American architect Frank Lloyd Wright to the World Heritage List. The request for inscription, submitted by the U.S. Department of the Interior in 2008, was titled "The Essential Works of Modern Architecture Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright".
UNESCO informed of the decision to inscribe Wright's buildings on the World Cultural Heritage List last July, but the ceremonial event took place at the Paris World Heritage Centre only yesterday. The originally proposed eleven was reduced in 2011 when the headquarters of S.C. Johnson and Son in Racine (Wisconsin) was removed. According to the submitters of the application, Wright's work represents "nearly sixty years of striving to create organic architecture that connects buildings with nature and dramatically utilizes flowing space. Wright's masterpieces were positively received by architects, critics, and art historians even at the time of their construction."
