Brno - The Brno Wannieck Gallery has prepared the first change of its exhibition following this year's successful battle to maintain its current premises. In the new exhibition titled "Skeleton in Paradise Sauce," visitors will be allowed a glimpse into its collection, which is one of the richest in contemporary painting in the Czech Republic. A large portion of the exhibited paintings and drawings by various authors will be seen by the public for the first time, the gallery representatives informed journalists.
The Wannieck Gallery's collection is primarily focused on the painting of the generations of the 1980s and 1990s, as well as the works of the youngest generation. However, the collection also includes works by older authors, as evidenced by the current exhibition. Interested individuals will see, for example, paintings by Jiří Sopko, Michael Rittstein, and Jiří Načeradský.
The exhibition also features a large collection of paintings by Petr Nikl, created from the 1980s to the present. "Most of these paintings have never been exhibited. Just like, for example, two completely unique canvases by André Butzer or a painting by Swiss artist Richard Paul Lohse, a key figure in concretism and constructivism," said curator Richard Adam.
The youngest generation is represented, for example, by David Hanvald, Vladimír Houdek, and Evžen Šimera. The exhibition in the main space of the Wannieck Gallery will run until September 29.
This year in February, the gallery received an eviction notice due to unpaid rent. It owed the city nearly 500,000 crowns. The gallery management immediately paid off the debt and requested the withdrawal of the eviction the next day. Long negotiations followed, and there was even the possibility of the gallery being evicted and the former Vaňkovka engineering works being rented to someone else.
At the end of April, the operators of the gallery paid a deposit and signed an indefinite contract with the city company South Center, with a notice period of 12 months.
