Prague - The program in many places around Bethlehem Square and in the adjacent streets of downtown Prague will bring this part of the metropolis to life on Thursday, September 6. The so-called Bethlehem Cultural Night will offer enthusiasts several openings, guided tours, concerts, author readings, and theatrical performances. A workshop is planned, and there will also be screenings of silent films accompanied by live music, said David Havas from the National Film Archive to ČTK.

Participating in the program at the Jaroslav Fragner Gallery are, for example, organizers from the Theatre Na zábradlí, Gallery Jedné věci, Gallery U Betlémské kaple, Cinema Ponrepo, café Krásný ztráty, Literary Café Řetězová, and the Náprstek Museum of Asian, African, and American Cultures.
"Already two hours after noon, the Antiquarian Bookshop and Gallery Ztichlá klika will open a one-day exhibition of the significant yet forgotten painter and graphic artist Michel Fingesten, a prominent figure in pre-war Berlin. Another opening will take place at 4:00 PM at the Theatre Na zábradlí, where actress Jana Hubinská will present photographs from Tibet. Under the title Sometimes Less is More, it will inaugurate the theater season for this stage with the motto Non-conformists," Havas stated.
In the afternoon, an exhibition will also begin at the FotoGrafic Gallery. The photographs of Anna Kazanová will be musically accompanied by Danish composers Anders Vestergaard and Kare Elers. The exhibition titled Fragility in the newly opened Gallery U Kunštátů focuses on the sculptures of Josefína Dušková in the reconstructed Romanesque spaces.
Visitors will also be able to visit the Náprstek Museum, where a lecture dedicated to its founder Vojta Náprstek will take place. He visited the World Exhibition in London 150 years ago, and the exhibits he purchased became the foundation of the museum's collection.
In the evening, Literary Café Řetězová will host a performance, street theater events, and author readings. The exhibition in Gallery U Betlémské kaple titled The World We Live In focuses on the works of the most significant authors of Group 42 - Lhoták, Gross, Kotík, Smetana, Zívr, and Hudeček. The music-theater night at Standard Cafe will offer five performances. Jana Machalíková and Hana Malaníková will present a project inspired by Woody Allen's short story If Impressionists Were Dentists twice.
The Jaroslav Fragner Gallery will start Bethlehem Cultural Night with the opening of an exhibition by the Brno architectural studio Kuba Pilař architekti and an exhibition of site-specific objects by students from Jiří Příhoda's studio at AVU in the gallery's courtyard. The concert by the Čankišou group will begin at half past eight.
Until midnight, silent films will be screened at the Ponrepo cinema with improvised musical accompaniment. According to Havas, there is space here for interested individuals or groups from the public who would like to perform.
