Venice - The 14th International Architecture Biennale starts today in Venice with Czech participation and will last until November 23rd. Visitors can view lectures and exhibitions not only in the main exhibitions at the Arsenale and Giardini but also at other locations throughout Venice. This year's main theme is an invitation to explore the beginnings of modern architecture. According to the official website labiennale.org, 65 countries are participating in this year's event. Czech architecture will be showcased in two locations. One of them is the national pavilion of Czechoslovakia in the Giardini area, which has been exhibiting since the 1920s. The project by the architects from the studio Kolmo.eu is titled 2 x 100 mil. m² - The Collective Dream and presents the architecture of large residential complexes realized from 1914 to 2014 in the territory of former Czechoslovakia as well as its successor states. The exhibition is the result of extensive research of more than two hundred million square meters of residential space conducted by the author team led by architect Martin Hejl, stated spokesperson of the National Gallery in Prague, Eva Kolerusová. The second exhibition with a Czech mark is prepared in the Dorsoduro district, titled Lifting The Curtain and maps the relationships and contexts in architecture within the Central European region, including the Czech state.
