Invitation to the exhibition knesl + kynčl architects 2001-2012 at GJF
The studio of two interesting and prominent personalities on the Brno scene has never represented avant-garde in their work. Their realizations are characterized by modesty and above all quality. Their scope ranges from urban complexes, through residential buildings to smaller family houses. Consistent quality is the motto of this studio.
The exhibition was originally intended to be a kind of reflection on a decade of our joint work, but as the date was continually postponed, we realized that we did not want it to be just a mere retrospective. In the everyday hustle and bustle, there is no time to stop and formulate and organize the things we think about and discuss. Therefore, we conceived this exhibition as an opportunity to address at least some internal backlogs.
We are generally close to comprehensible statements, and that is why we like classic exhibitions, where one can see something more than just a few fashionable photos that are full of magazines and the internet, or some extravagant display. Therefore, we try to show how we think, what we think about, to clarify what we do, why we do it, and what occupies us.
The most suitable representations of our way of thinking are probably the competition projects, in which the original idea is expressed in a crystalline form, still unclouded by discussions, optimizations, methods of realization, etc. Through five competition proposals and three other types of projects, we attempt to present our mental processes, which can be briefly captured by the motto "Between the city and the house."

We are always interested first in the place where the house is to be built, its connections and contexts. A house is not a sculpture; it is not there just for itself; it is always a part of the city or landscape. That is why we also address a complete range of architectural works and positions – from urban planning to details and from theory to realization.
