Galerie Eisler invites you to a one-day exhibition: OTTO EISLER - PARTIALLY OPENSeptember 14, 2013 / 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Galerie Eisler (Jewish School) Jewish Square 212, Lomnice near Tišnov www.eislergallery.cz
Otto Eisler stands in his work between "Loos' traditionalism and Gropius' modernism." However, Otto Eisler was friends with Adolf Loos and worked with Walter Gropius. The reception of Otto Eisler's work can be traced primarily in the German-speaking professional press during the First Republic and after 1989 thanks to the writings of Professors Šlapeta, Kroupa, and Pelčák. But what do we know about his collecting and charitable activities or social and professional contacts (J. Váchal, J. J. P. Oud, P. Behrens, P. Johnson, T. T. Heine ...) and his intellectual world? The exhibition attempts to bring closer the atmosphere and lifestyle of the First Republic. Otto Eisler often traveled to the former Baroque Jewish school, which belonged to his brothers, to paint and photograph in the surroundings. Among other things, original woodcuts by Josef Váchal, tubular furniture by Jindřich Halabala, a card table by Marcel Breuer, an armchair by Antonín Heythum, and a chandelier by Adolf Loos will be on display. The work of Otto Eisler will be presented on exhibition panels. The exhibition will be followed by lectures by Prof. Pelčák and Mgr. Czajkowski as part of the Memorial Evening for Otto Eisler.

Otto Eisler stands in his work between "Loos' traditionalism and Gropius' modernism." He was represented by two buildings in the catalog of the exhibition The International Style in New York in 1932, the most significant showcase of interwar world architecture. The reception of Otto Eisler's work can be traced primarily in the German-speaking professional press during the First Republic and after 1989 thanks to the writings of Professors Šlapeta, Kroupa, and Pelčák. Prof. Petr Pelčák will present Otto Eisler's architectural work. As an editor, he prepared the monograph on Otto Eisler for print in 1998 and organized his only post-revolution exhibition. He has been engaged with his work long term, most recently in the book Brno Architecture 1919-1939. Mgr. Petr Czajkowski has long been concerned with the history of the Stiassni family, a family of textile industrialists and entrepreneurial nobility of the first half of the 20th century. In his lecture, he will touch upon their relations with the Eisler family, whose construction company built villas, apartment houses, and factories for them, partly based on projects by Otto Eisler. Ing. Jan Kříž will present some insights into the fate of the Eisler brothers during World War II and the context of Otto Eisler's Norwegian emigration. These insights arose from the preparation of the exhibition The Eisler Brothers - Uncertain Times 1921 - 1961, which he curated.
