Ostrava - The exhibition at the Gallery of Fine Arts in Ostrava presents the proposals of the influential American urban planner and architect of Israeli origin, Rafael Segal. The exhibition titled Rafi Segal - Architecture: Concepts and Forms will be on display until September 7. This was stated to ČTK by the gallery spokesperson Kateřina Naarová. "The exhibition maps the creation of architectural designs for several buildings from recent years by the prominent American architect, influential urban planner, and scientist," she said. She added that Segal became known to the public as a collaborator of the famous architect Zvi Hecker, with whom he co-designed the Palmach Museum in Tel Aviv. "However, his name resonated the loudest in global media in connection with the project of the National Library of Israel in Jerusalem," she said. Segal's design won an international architectural competition, but was disqualified from the competition after loud political controversies. The architectural solution for the exhibition at the House of Art in Ostrava was personally designed by Segal. "The art of architecture itself cannot be transferred into exhibition spaces, but the way my designs are born is eloquently documented by the exhibition," described the architect how he dealt with the installation. The exhibition will be open daily except Mondays at the House of Art GVUO until September 7, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The architect, influential urban planner, and scientist studied architecture at Technion in Israel, where he obtained an engineering degree. He completed his doctoral studies at Princeton University. From 1992 to 2000, he collaborated with Hecker. Later, he founded his own office, which won the international competition for the project of the National Library of Israel in Jerusalem. The office is currently based in the USA and focuses on projects and research in the field of architecture and urban solutions.
