Turnov

Turnov - A new exhibition at the museum in Turnov, focused on the somewhat forgotten architect and builder Vladimír Krýš from the first half of the 20th century, will start this Friday. Krýš left a significant mark on the building development in the city and its surroundings. This was announced by the museum's spokesperson Marcela Beranová in a press release.

"The exhibition will present the life and work of Vladimír Krýš through historical and contemporary photographs, historical planning documentation, and models of his most interesting objects," Beranová stated. Among his most significant buildings in Turnov are the Louma Villa on Zelená cesta, the Žák Villa on Bezručova Street, his own villa on Nádražní Street, the Hussite Church, and the cemetery chapel by the Marian Church.

Krýš was born on June 15, 1897, and established his design and construction firm in Turnov in 1927. His scope was broad, ranging from simple buildings that did not deviate from the common production of the time to peak works in the spirit of expressive modernity and functionalism. "Krýš's name is associated with the construction of family and apartment houses as well as sacred buildings, which were mainly created from the late 1920s to the early 1940s," said the exhibition's author Petra Šternová from the National Heritage Institute in Liberec. Krýš died after a serious illness on April 12, 1951.

Another exhibition will also begin at the Turnov museum on Friday. The museum will present the first results of a survey dedicated to brickworks in the region. "We are localizing brickworks, gathering brick products with stamps or other marks, and sometimes less traditional shapes fired for a narrower range of use. We already know of seven brickworks in Turnov that operated at different times," Beranová mentioned. The largest of them was the Excellenz Freiherr von Aehrenthal’ sche Dampfziegelei Nudwowitz-Turnau, which succeeded also due to the introduction of several innovative methods, such as glazed roof tiles. For the museum, these are the last two new exhibitions this year. Both will last until January 8 of the next year.
