Hradec Králové - The Museum of East Bohemia in Hradec Králové today opened two new exhibitions. The exhibition titled 140th Anniversary of the Austro-Prussian War of 1866 brings visitors artifacts from this period, while the second exhibition, Hradec Králové from Fortress to Republic Salon, captures the architectural development of the regional capital.

The exhibition about the Austro-Prussian War is part of the commemorative events for this year's 140th anniversary of the war. "The exhibition features original weapons, uniforms, and other artifacts from our collections from that time. In addition, visitors have the chance to see engravings depicting war events in East Bohemia in 1866," said the museum director Zdeněk Zahradník to ČTK today.
The program of commemorative events will culminate at the turn of June and July in Hradec Králové and at Chlum. History enthusiasts will build a historical encampment on June 30 in the Great Square, and there will also be a demonstration of the clash between Austrian and Prussian units. According to the organizers, around 600 uniformed lovers of military history are expected to participate. The same number of soldiers and approximately 70 horses are to appear in the demonstration at Chlum.
The second exhibition offers museum visitors a look at the transformation of the city, featuring period photographs, architectural designs, and also two models of the historical center of Hradec Králové. One depicts the city over 150 years ago, when it was surrounded by fortification walls, while the other provides a view of Hradec Králové as it was captured in 2000, spread over more than 20 square meters. "The exhibition on the architectural changes of Hradec Králové will be in the museum for a long time; we plan to regularly supplement it, and we would like to have a model made of an unrealized theater building proposed by architect Josef Gočár for Hradec," said Zahradník.
