Brno - The Moravian Gallery in Brno today opens an exhibition of the latest projects by five representatives of a strong generation of Brno architects, who have been helping to change the face of the city since the early 1990s. Aleš Burian, Gustav Křivinka, Petr Pelčák, Tomáš Rusín, and Ivan Wahla know each other from their studies and early professional beginnings, and today they work in three different studios. The exhibition will answer the question of whether their work still retains common features and generational ties, the gallery representatives said to journalists today. The gallery has also launched a new exhibition line in the so-called respirium of the Applied Arts Museum. The hall will serve exhibitions from the field of applied arts, design, and architecture of the 20th century and contemporary times. "Although the Moravian Gallery does not have a separate collection of architecture, we consider the presentation of architectural work in the art-historical context to be important," said chief curator Alexandra Kusá. Architects Burian and Křivinka have been working together in a studio that bears their names since 1991. They gained fame through projects for educational and healthcare facilities. Pelčák has his own studio. In the past, he worked on the reconstruction of Denis Gardens and the construction of the Vaňkovka Gallery. Rusín and Wahla have a joint brand RAW. With a sobriety of form and careful selection of materials, they adhere to interwar architectural modernism. Many Brno residents unknowingly encounter their work daily, as they have designed the interiors of sought-after cafes. Rusín is also a successful scenographer. According to curator Martina Straková, the work of all five exhibiting authors elevates the character of Czech architecture and enriches the surroundings. The exhibition will run until May 31.
