To the exhibition Ten Years of SENAA Architects

Opening speech at the vernissage of the exhibition Ten Years of SENAA at the Gallery in the School at ZŠ J.A. Komenského in Kyjov
Architecture does not need commentary. A good building should speak for itself. It can do so in many ways. I will mention just two opposite poles. One approach is that it will attract attention at first glance, but soon it will become tiresome and start to irritate. The opposite approach is that it will serve well, not be a nuisance, and age beautifully. This is the path that SENAA architects have taken. The advantages of this path will only be realized over time. You may notice their architectural qualities only at second glance, but this discovery is all the more valuable and lasting than with buildings that aim solely to shock and attract attention at first glance. The exhibition in Kyjov commemorates ten years since the founding of SENAA architects. We selected ten projects and realizations. There was much to choose from. After one decade, they have a wealth of quality work that could not fit into the exhibition hall. To help you gain a comprehensive idea and take away more than just memories from today's vernissage, we created a catalog. We began working on the exhibition in the spring when we regularly gathered in the studio at Jakubské náměstí. In addition to the introductory text, a comprehensive interview was also created, which could not fit into the catalog but will be available online to everyone.
In the beginning, I mentioned that architecture does not need commentary. However, behind every building, there are always people. It is not a genius individual, but entire teams of experts who deserve to be mentioned, remembered, and thanked. The entire SENAA office from Brno attended today's vernissage. For a moment, the daily hustle and bustle quieted down so that we could all look back at the immense body of work and gather strength for the coming decades, during which we can look forward to more excellent realizations from SENAA architects.
