The exhibition mapping the visible traces of the life of one of the most significant Brno families from the First Republic period premiered last spring at the Löw-Beer Villa. Its reprise can now be seen at the Stiassni Villa.
The location of the exhibition is not coincidental, as evidenced by a photograph of Greta Tugendhat (née Löw-Beer) in the garden of the Stiassni Villa. Greta Tugendhat and Hermine Stiassni were connected not only by friendship but also by their joint work for the League for Human Rights. This organization got involved in providing financial and practical assistance to political refugees from Germany and later from Austria after the rise of Adolf Hitler to power.
The exhibition, which will be on display in the former kitchen of the Stiassni Villa from February 5 to May 8, 2016, explores residential, industrial, and other buildings in the city of Brno that still remind us of the fates of three generations of the Löw-Beer family – a family of prominent industrialists in the wool and sugar industries. The people of Brno often pass by these objects without much notice. The ambition of the exhibition is to highlight the economic and construction activities of the Löw-Beer family and place them in historical contexts.
The exhibition was prepared by the Museum of Brno – Löw-Beer Villa in Brno under the leadership of curator Petra Svobodová.
