Archikultura 2015 in Ostrava will feature three exhibitions

Ostrava - The International Festival of Architecture, Design, and Art Archikultura 2015 this year will offer a total of three exhibitions in the halls of the House of Art at the Gallery of Fine Arts in Ostrava. It will present the work and creations of Alfred Neumann as well as the work of the Dutch firm NL Architects, which also designed the architectural and urban planning solution for the exhibition grounds of Černá louka in Ostrava. The third exhibition showcases the work of Japanese architect Masaharu Takasaki. The gallery director Jiří Jůza announced this to journalists today. All exhibitions start today.
The individual projects of the festival are also held in other locations. The aim of the entire event, organized by the association Cabinet of Architecture, is to bring modern and contemporary architecture closer to the public through exhibitions, film screenings, discussions, lectures, and live excursions.
The main project of this year's festival is the world premiere of an exhibition titled Architecture Empowering Space / Alfred Neumann - Life and Work, which has been prepared for two years by an international team from Europe, the USA, and Israel. "If it weren't for the complex times in which he lived and created, Alfred Neumann would probably have long since been known as the most famous Czech creator and theorist of modern architecture," states one of the authors, Tadeáš Goryczka.
This is indeed the first realized exhibition about Neumann's work, who was born in Vienna in 1900, studied in Brno, became globally renowned in Israel, and died in Canada in 1968. In the Ostrava gallery, four spatial models based on Neumann's most famous projects have been built to such a scale that visitors can walk through them. The exhibition is complemented by Neumann's personal correspondence, photographs, paintings, and sketches.
The next architectural exhibition in the House of Art maps entirely contemporary trends. It will present some designs from the Dutch office NL Architects, which also designed the architectural and urban solution for the Černá louka area in Ostrava. Interested parties will see this proposal, which considered a combination of lush vegetation with actual buildings. "We will also present another 30 projects from our office," said Pieter Bannenberg for NL Architects.
The third exhibition also showcases contemporary architecture. This time through the lens of contemporary Japanese author Masaharu Takasaki, who is currently primarily focused on the restoration of those areas in Japan that have been severely damaged by earthquakes, tsunamis, and nuclear disasters in recent years.
All three festival exhibitions will be open at the Gallery of Fine Arts until Sunday, June 7th.
