Prague - Home is the central theme of the eighth edition of the modern design exhibition, which is traditionally held under the name Designblok. From today until the end of this week, interested parties will be able to get acquainted with the latest trends in furnishing residential interiors, get inspired by kitchen or bathroom equipment. About sixty Czech and foreign creators will present their work, which also includes fashion, jewelry, and industrial design, at forty locations in Prague.

"We decided to present design in the context of the apartment. We want to show that design can not only be exhibited but also used at home," said Jana Zelinská from the organizing agency Profi Media at today's press conference. This year's main events of Designblok will take place in an unfinished building of the River Diamond residential complex in Karlín. Some exhibitions will be installed directly on the construction site.
According to Zelinská, visitors will see twelve model apartments where prestigious companies will showcase various approaches to interiors. "The exhibition maps the emotions associated with living, but will also present the most prestigious residential projects in the capital city. The works are primarily presented by Czech designers," Zelinská told ČTK. Czech design is, according to her, at an exceptionally high level. "This is reflected in the good schools and traditions in craftsmanship," she stated.
Interior design will be presented by renowned design companies, fashion designers, and sculptors. Besides the Karlín studio, Designblok centers will also be in Vinohrady, the Old Town, and Holešovice. Among other things, a new collection by Bořek Šípek will be exhibited in the Arsenal. Real interiors will be presented by furniture companies in collaboration with renowned Prague architects. Part of the exhibition is also a new Joyster car, which Škoda Auto presented last week at the Paris Motor Show.
Czech creators will be represented by Halka Maršáková, Maxim Velčovský, Riony Plesl, Jerry Koza, and Hana Zárubová, among others. "Home is an atmosphere for me. I don't want it to be a cold design that looks good in magazines. My goal is for people to want to live there. I like it when it's perfectly done. But I'm interested in the mood and individuality," Maršáková, who focuses on textile design, told ČTK.
From foreign creators, audiences will see, for example, futuristic interiors by Austrian artist Reiner Mutsche. "There is artificial mess. A different conception of the ceiling or floor," he described his exhibition.
Designblok was established in 1999 at the initiative of design shops. Since 1999, its scope has been increasing. While only 14 exhibitors participated in the first year, last year there were over a hundred.
