The Mayor of the city of Plzeň, Ing. Pavel Rödl, announced a public competition on Friday. For the Hanuš Zápal Award, Plzeň buildings constructed from January 2006 to December 2009 may compete. To nominate, it is necessary to deliver a written proposal to the Department of Concept and Development of the City of Plzeň by no later than September 3, 2010. Starting this year, the Hanuš Zápal Award will be announced every four years. “The goal is to encourage public interest and that of decisive investors in creating buildings that meet the strictest aesthetic and technical criteria of today with their architectural quality and can thus elevate the building culture of the city,” explains the Mayor of Plzeň, Pavel Rödl.
The Hanuš Zápal Award consists of a graphic sheet depicting a portrait of the architect Hanuš Zápal and an original document certifying the award. The winner will also receive a financial reward of 100,000. The award can be granted to individuals or author teams, and its granting is not tied to the permanent residence or nationality of the author. The submitted proposals will be evaluated by a professional jury, which consists of 5 regular members (Ing. arch. Pavla Kordovská, Ing. arch. Petr Franta, Ing. arch. Vladimír Milunić, Ing. arch. Jaroslav Šafer, Ing. arch. Jaroslav Zima) and 2 alternates (Ing. arch. Ludvík Grym and Ing. arch. Libor Monhart). The evaluation of the competition will take place on October 12.
