Ústí nad Labem – The Ústí Region will announce an international architectural competition for the construction of a transformation center. It will be established on the site of a former high school in Ústí nad Labem. The council has now selected a company to prepare the competition. The winner of the competition could be known in a year. This was stated to ČTK by regional councilor Iva Dvořáková.

The transformation center is one of the approved strategic projects of the Ústí Region, the creation of which will be financed by the Just Transition Fund, designated for coal regions. "It is one of the most important projects in the region," said Governor Jan Schiller (ANO). The preparation of the competition will cost 8.7 million crowns. It will be announced this summer. "We want renowned international architectural firms to be able to apply," said the governor.

The Innovation Center of the Ústí Region (ICUK), currently located in rented premises, will move to the center. "There will also be some kind of energy center for all contributory organizations. There will be experts whom municipalities can turn to for help with grant applications and similar requests," Dvořáková stated. According to her, the transformation center should serve as an example of how to transform a brownfield into an energy-friendly building. "We want to utilize all modern technologies available there, which will also be beneficial for the users," the councilor added.

The entire complex was already intended for reconstruction by the previous regional coalition led by the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia (KSČM). A plan was created for a vocational campus, aimed at supporting secondary vocational education. "The project was practically prepared, but it lacked support from the then opposition. While we could have pushed it through, it would have only been by one vote, and I didn't want that for such a large project," said former councilor for investments Ladislav Drlý (KSČM) to ČTK. At that time, ANO and ODS were in opposition, the parties that are now in the leadership of the region together with the Allies for the Region movement.
