On Saturday, March 7, 2020, at 4:00 PM, the final evening of the jubilee 10th edition of the architectural competition for university students, SUPERSTUDIO, will take place at the Prague Center for Architecture and Urban Planning (CAMP). Students from across Czechia and Slovakia will present their solutions to the assignment developed by the successful London studio OMMX. The founders of the studio will be joined by internationally recognized Czech-Swiss architect Miroslav Šik and architect and theorist Pavla Melková on the jury. The final evening is open to the public.

THEME: FACADES
Five Czech and Slovak cities hosted the first round of the popular architectural competition for university students SUPERSTUDIO on the last weekend of February. A record 136 teams registered for the jubilee 10th year, from which expert juries sent a total of 18 best projects to the international final. Within a time limit of 24 hours, students addressed a uniform assignment developed this year by the London studio OMMX.

The assignment, aptly named SKIN, focuses on exploring the potential of building facades – the assignment intentionally allowed for a very broad interpretation of this fundamental architectural theme. Students were tasked with identifying a specific building whose facade is not functioning in any way or has lost its original meaning/purpose and proposing possible solutions. Thus, the assignment touches not only on current issues of the environment and sustainability but also on the artistic, representative, and above all, social role of this fundamental architectural element.

FINAL IN CAMP
The best student projects will be evaluated during the grand final evening on March 7 at CAMP by a jury composed of prominent figures in Czech and world architecture. In addition to the founders of the studio OMMX, Jon Lopez and Hikaru Nissanke, the jury will include prominent Swiss architect of Czech origin Miroslav Šik, who has been teaching and leading his own architectural studio in Zurich since the 1970s, and award-winning architect, theorist, and educator Pavla Melková.

The final evening will commence with a lecture by the studio OMMX starting at 4:00 PM. Following this, individual presentations will take place, during which students will present their projects for a maximum of 200 seconds – after each presentation, there will be a critical discussion with the jury. The awarded teams will share prize money of 50,000 crowns and prizes from partners, while the winners will receive the original glass trophy SUPERSTUDIO, specially designed and produced for this year by the company Lasvit. The final evening, which is open to the public, invites a wide audience.
