The Building of the Year for the Liberec Region is the new kindergarten in Vratislavice

Liberec - The new kindergarten in Vratislavice nad Nisou designed by architects Petr Stolín and Alena Mičeková won this year's edition of the competition for the Building of the Year in the Liberec Region. It received the main prize today, and also won in the innovation category and the civil and industrial buildings category. This was the fifteenth year of the competition, which since this year has borne the name of the author of the mountain hotel and transmitter Ještěd, architect Karel Hubáček. This year, a record 49 projects participated in the competition, including 42 buildings, one construction-innovation project, and six student works.

"I am very pleased that the number of original, high-quality, and timeless buildings is increasing year by year. The kindergarten in Vratislavice nad Nisou, designed by architects Petr Stolín and Alena Mičeková, who have signed many interesting projects in our region, is exactly such a building," said Governor Martin Půta (Mayors for the Liberec Region), who took the patronage of the competition. This year's Governor's Prize went to the reconstruction of the building of Česká Beseda in Český Dub into a community house.

In the category of family and apartment houses, the House Behind the Wall, built on an old stone cellar according to a project by the MJÖLK architects studio, won. In the category of public space and communication, the jury awarded the Park of New Vratislavice, which was built on the site of a former orchard. In the Junior category, the project of third-year student Filip Drapák from the Secondary School of Civil Engineering in Liberec won for designing a "small big house."

The student project inspired by functionalism utilizes modern technologies of today, such as smart home features. The building is designed to passive standards and incorporates renewable energy sources. The project also attracted public interest in the voting. However, there were more buildings with low energy consumption in the competition. "Energy savings are a trend of our times, and it's good that architects and builders in our region are not indifferent to this," noted regional councilor for development Radka Loučková Kotasová (ANO).

The competition has a tradition in the Liberec Region since 2004. Construction companies and architectural studios can present the results of their work in this manner. This March, the organizers launched a new website for the competition www.stavbaroku.lk, where all nominated buildings and projects are listed. Through the website, the public could also participate in the voting. The people were particularly fond of the new fire station in Krásná Studánka, built according to architect Vojtěch Šrut's design. It received 738 votes.
