GOAL OF THE EXHIBITION The goal of the exhibition is to compare the level of quality of education at architectural schools and faculties in the Czech Republic. By announcing this exhibition, the Czech Chamber of Architects aims to contribute to raising the standards of architectural education.
SUBJECT OF THE EXHIBITION The subject of the exhibition includes successfully defended diploma theses of graduates from schools and faculties of architecture (accredited for the fields of interior, architecture, and urbanism or landscape architecture) in the school year 2005/2006.
PARTICIPATION IN THE EXHIBITION Individuals - graduates of schools and faculties of architecture that collaborate with the Czech Chamber of Architects can participate in the exhibition: Faculty of Architecture CTU in Prague, Faculty of Architecture BUT in Brno, Department of Architectural Creation at AVU in Prague, Faculty of Horticulture MZLU in Lednice, Faculty of Architecture TUL in Liberec, Department of Architecture at AAU in Prague, Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture at CULS in Prague.
ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE EXHIBITION The 7th year of the Exhibition of Diploma Theses will be publicly announced on June 6, 2006, as part of the last traveling exhibition of the 6th year of the Exhibition of Diploma Theses at the Nábřeží Gallery in Prague 5.
DOCUMENTS FOR PARTICIPATION IN THE EXHIBITION The application and competition conditions, including a binding template for the competition panel A1, are available at www.diplomy.cz and at www.cka.cc in the competition/Exhibition of Diploma Theses ČKA section. At the same time, the competition conditions can be obtained in electronic or written form upon request from the competition secretary.
APPLICATION Applications for the Exhibition of Diploma Theses 2006 can be submitted from February 1 to July 14, 2006. A clearly completed and signed application must be submitted to the ČKA Office in Prague or Brno, either in person or by mail. Upon submission of a completed application, the competitor will be provided with a voucher for free printing of the competition proposal, three A1 panels according to the binding template at Copy General. Money for printing will not be reimbursed.
REQUIRED COMPETITION DOCUMENTATION
The competition documentation must be submitted in the following form:
1. Graphic Documentation must be submitted on 3 presentation panels in A1 portrait format on hard paper (unbacked, without frames, etc.). The selection is left to the author. It is permitted to present the entire work in reduced formats on A1. The graphic documentation will include a accompanying text with a brief description of the diploma thesis. The graphic documentation will be adjusted according to a binding template (Appendix No. 1 of the competition conditions).
2. Textual Part will be submitted in A4 portrait format, maximum 1900 characters including spaces, font type Times New Roman (do not use Caps Lock!).
3. Electronic Part
CD 1 - (for the purpose of publishing the Exhibition Catalog) Diploma thesis submitted on CD. We require: bitmap images (if the image is composed, the following data must be adhered to for individual images or sections) in A5 format at a resolution of 300 dpi. Bitmap image formats: eps, tif, jpg. Vector image formats: ai, eps. For vector images, we require all texts to be converted to outlines. A text accompanying report in the required format in a Word document will also be burned onto the CD.
CD 2 - (for the purpose of the jury's decision on awarding the special ArchiCAD prize for the best work processed in this software) Source data in any version of the ArchiCAD program in which the diploma thesis was processed, submitted on CD. By submitting this CD, the competitor grants the provider of the special prize the right to use the awarded work for its promotional and advertising purposes.
CD 3 - (for the purposes of the jury's decision to award the special Allplan 2005 Architecture package 300 prize for the best work processed in this software) Source data in any legal version of this software in which the diploma thesis was processed, submitted on CD. By submitting this CD, the competitor grants the provider of the special prize the right to use the awarded work for its promotional and advertising purposes.
The competition documentation remains the property of the competition organizer, with the right to publish in the Exhibition Catalog of Diploma Theses. By submitting the diploma thesis to the Exhibition, participants express consent with all the conditions.
EVALUATION CRITERIA The jury evaluates submitted works regardless of the type of diploma thesis assignment. The basic evaluation criterion is the architectural quality of the submitted work.
The jury will exclude those submitted diploma theses whose documentation does not meet the formal and content requirements of the competition conditions from consideration. Additionally, works not delivered within the deadline specified by the competition conditions will also be excluded.
JURY For this year, the board of the ČKA appointed top experts from the ranks of architects as jury members, and for the first time, former participants of previous years' exhibitions have also been appointed as jurors. The eight-member jury, including substitutes, consists of: Ing.arch. Markéta Cajthamlová, Ing.arch. Barbara Potysz, Ing.arch. Jiří Merger, Ing.arch. Jaromír Kročák, MgA. Ing.arch. Petr Uhlík, Ing.arch. Martin Matiska, Ing.arch. Milan Jirovec, Ing.arch. Roman Koranda.
PRIZES AND AWARDS From the total budget of the ČKA, an amount of 50,000 CZK is allocated for prizes and awards. The first prize is set at 25,000 CZK, the second prize at 15,000 CZK, and the third prize at 10,000 CZK. The jury has the right not to award some prizes or to award multiple prizes or awards while maintaining the total sum of financial resources allocated for prizes.
Additionally, as part of the 7th year, the jury may award prizes from financial partners: - license for the AEC/CAD system Allplan 2005 Architecture, package 300 worth 115,000 CZK from Nemetschek - license for the use of ArchiCAD worth 68,000 CZK from Cegra - HP Designjet 70 printer worth 25,000 CZK from Hewlett Packard - two One chairs by Konstantin Grcic (Magis) worth 14,000 CZK from 3D H. Interior - prepaid copying card worth 10,000 CZK from Copy General
DEADLINES AND METHOD OF SUBMITTING COMPETITION DOCUMENTATION Deadlines: - application for the competition February 1 - July 14, 2006 - submission of defended diploma theses: June 6 - July 14, 2006 - meeting of the evaluation jury: during July/August 2006 - announcement of results: September/October 2006
Method of submission: Diploma theses for the Exhibition can be submitted in person at the ČKA Offices or sent by mail to the address Czech Chamber of Architects, Josefská 34/6, 118 00 Prague 1.
Place of submission: Diploma theses submitted to the Exhibition will be submitted at the ČKA Office in Prague at Josefská 34/6, Prague 1, on weekdays from 9 AM to 3 PM, or at the ČKA Office in Brno at Starobrněnská 16/18 by prior telephone or email agreement.
PUBLICATION OF THE EXHIBITION RESULTS The deadline for announcing the results of the competition exhibition is set at 10 days from the jury's final decision. The results will be sent to the participants of the exhibition via email and published on www.diplomy.cz and www.cka.cc in the competition/Exhibition of Diploma Theses ČKA section. The announcement of the results of the Exhibition of Diploma Theses is set to be by the end of October 2006.
PROMOTION Diploma theses submitted to the Exhibition will be displayed during October - December 2006 in the hall of the Czech Chamber of Architects. The exact date of the ceremonial opening + announcement of results will be announced to all participants of the Exhibition with sufficient notice; the date will also be published at schools and faculties of architecture. On the same date, all competition works will be published in a virtual gallery www.diplomy.cz.
The Czech Chamber of Architects will publish a Catalog of the Exhibition of Diploma Theses 2006.
The results of the Exhibition will also be published in the Bulletin of the ČKA and in other professional press, professional journals, and daily newspapers.
Diploma theses will be displayed as part of a traveling exhibition at architectural schools and possibly other locations during the first half of 2007.
PARTNERS OF THE EXHIBITION This year, financial partners include: Nemetschek, Center for Computer Graphics Support (ArchiCAD), Hewlett Packard, Copy General. Media partners include: the magazine Architekt, Konstrukce, ASB, Era 21, Forum of Architecture and Construction, Beton, and the internet portal archiweb.cz.
