Prague - The capital city wants to announce an architectural competition next year for the reconstruction and expansion of the Vršovice stadium Ďolíček. The neighboring parking lot, where a parking garage and residential development could be created, will be addressed separately. This was stated today by Prague councilor Vít Šimral (Pirates). The city took over the stadium after long negotiations about the purchase last year.
The council of Prague 10, according to the councilor, approved a memorandum that will allow the reconstruction of the stadium to begin even before the plan for its surroundings is clarified. This could be a lengthy process, for example, due to the need to change the zoning plan. According to Šimral, architectural studies will be created for both projects.
The repair of the neglected stadium should start from the south stand near Vršovická Street, which should be expanded and commercial spaces should be created there. Capacities are then expected to increase throughout the rest of the stadium to meet the standards for first league matches and UEFA Europa League. Currently, the stadium does not meet these standards and has an exception. "Naturally, it can't be an exception forever, so we expect that the capacities will have to change," Šimral stated.
The capital is also preparing further investments in sports infrastructure in the metropolis in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports. A park for water sports next to the existing slalom course in Troja is planned, which should include a new water channel, a number of outdoor sports facilities, and a leisure area. Another intention is to build a covered athletics hall, which, according to Šimral, could be constructed in Prague 9 or Prague 11.
The city is also addressing the issue of the Strahov stadium, according to the councilor. There is no clarity regarding a specific plan, but the city would like to maintain the sports function of the stadium, which could potentially be supplemented by student housing given its size. There is also a possibility that a center for space technologies could be established at Strahov in collaboration with the Czech Technical University, added the councilor.
Among smaller projects, Šimral mentioned multifunctional sports halls, one of which is expected to open in Řepy. "We are counting on investments in further halls," the councilor stated. He added that the city administration has identified a location in Prague 12, for example. According to Šimral, the city allocates approximately 300 million crowns annually for investments in sports infrastructure, and a similar amount is spent by city districts. For large projects, the city expects co-financing from the state.
