Prague - The shape of the Pankrác plain in Prague will be determined by an architectural competition. The announcement of the competition was agreed upon by the Chamber of Architects, the Institute of Planning and Development Prague (IPR), and the developer, Central Group, which owns the land in Pankrác. This was reported today by IPR representatives. The appearance of Pankrác, where high-rise buildings stand, has evoked mixed reactions from the public for several years. The area is expected to see the construction of residential buildings with shops and restaurants. A publicly accessible park will be created between the buildings. "Concerns from civic initiatives and heritage protectors can be expected in such an exposed location regarding any construction project, which is why it is appropriate to prepare the planned development in the form of an architectural competition," stated IPR head Tomáš Ctibor. According to him, the goal is to enhance the fragmented panorama of the Pankrác plain with buildings. The proposals from eleven architectural studios will be evaluated by a jury composed of architects, heritage protectors, and representatives from the academic sphere. Notable architects such as David Vávra and Adam Gebrian as well as the dean of the Faculty of Art and Architecture of the Technical University in Liberec, Zdeněk Fránek, will be members of the jury. Heritage protectors from the city hall and the National Heritage Institute will supervise the competition. The results will be known in early October.
