The appearance of the ZŠ Lipence pavilion will emerge from the architectural competition

Prague - The elementary school in the Prague district of Lipence is expected to get a new pavilion. It should include a school kitchen, cafeteria, and new classrooms for students. The proposal for the school's extension will come from an architectural competition that will be announced on October 29th. This was reported today by the mayor of the Prague - Lipence district, Lenka Kadlecová (Association for Lipence).

The elementary school in Lipence consists of a building from 1868 and three added pavilions. Originally, the school was built as a small multi-grade school with two classrooms and two apartments for teachers. Through gradual extensions and additions, it has become a nine-grade school. The last addition was a four-story pavilion built in 2019, which included, among other things, six classrooms for about 140 students, offices with a staff room, changing rooms, sanitary facilities, and space for technical equipment. The extension increased the number of students to approximately 400, while the school's previous capacity was 220 students.

According to the municipality, it is now primarily necessary to increase the capacity of the school cafeteria and kitchen. Currently, these facilities are in a pavilion that was built in 2000. "This pavilion is the weakest link of the entire building (of the school), it has poor spatial arrangements, it leaks, and (the building) is drafty," said Kadlecová. Therefore, the city hall intends to demolish the pavilion and build a new structure, the design of which will be the result of the planned architectural competition. Participants in the competition should propose a building that will include a larger school cafeteria and kitchen than the current ones, at least five classrooms, and spaces for school management.

Interested participants in the competition should apply by the preliminary schedule by November 22nd. The winner of the competition is expected to be announced in spring 2022.
