Valašské Meziříčí – The design of a new gymnasium and training sports hall in Valašské Meziříčí in the Vsetín region will emerge from an architectural competition. The conditions for the competition for the extension of the gymnasium of the Křižná Primary School were approved today by the city councilors. The deadline for submitting proposals is set for March 15 of next year, announced today to ČTK the spokesperson of the Valašské Meziříčí city hall, Jakub Mikuš.
The school gymnasium and training hall will be built in the center of the city near the primary school. It will be used not only by 650 students but also by athletes in the afternoons and on weekends. "We do not want to build a megalomaniacal hall for hundreds of millions of crowns that will never meet the needs of all sports. Economically and operationally, it is much more advantageous for our city to construct a new gymnasium with the parameters of a training hall. Given that our largest primary school has long lacked such sports facilities, this is an ideal solution. We expect that an indoor field measuring 43 by 23 meters with a grandstand for 200 spectators could be created here,” said Deputy Mayor Petr Nachtmann.
In previous years, the city along with the Zlín Region considered building a sports hall in the premises of the Integrated Secondary School. However, compared to the original study, the final cost of the planned contract has increased and the region and the city suspended the preparation of the construction in 2020.
The estimated costs for the extension of the gymnasium are 100 million crowns. "Of course, we would like to apply for a subsidy for the construction. Besides the gymnasium itself, we also want to address the surrounding outdoor sports area of the school, which is why we decided to announce an architectural competition,” stated the deputy mayor.
The competition is being administered for the city by a specialized firm in cooperation with the city architect. "The deadline for submitting competition proposals is set for mid-March of next year. Subsequently, an evaluation will take place by a jury composed of experts nominated directly by the Czech Chamber of Architects and representatives of the city. The evaluation criteria will emphasize the quality of both architectural and landscape solutions, as well as the quality of the proposal from the perspective of sustainability including technical standards. I believe that through this competition we will obtain a well-developed solution that will not only suitably complement the existing area but also take into account the needs of the school and athletes,” stated Deputy Mayor Yvona Wojaczková.
