The consortium UNIT + A69 + DUA + Land05 + ONplan was announced the winner of the urban planning competition at a festive evening in the CAMP in Prague, which aims to find the optimal urban planning solution for the transport hub and its related area near Nádraží Hostivař. The client is Zelená Hostivař, part of the JRD group, in cooperation with the Prague 15 District and the city of Prague.
The urban planning competition took place from the autumn of last year in three phases, each culminating in a joint workshop of the competitors, the expert jury, and invited specialists. In the first phase of the competition, out of 24 applications received, only five multidisciplinary teams were selected based on their portfolios of reference works and descriptions of professional approaches to the assignment – Pavel Hnilička Architects-Planners, Pelčák and partner architects, gogolák + grasse, UNIT+A69+DUA+Land05+ONPlan, and agps architecture.
These teams presented their concepts to the jury in the second phase of the competition. The designs were evaluated by expert jurors and independent specialists from the fields of environmental sustainability (JRD), watercourses (OCP MHMP), urban development (Prague Development Company), economics (4ct), public spaces (IPR Prague), spatial planning (IPR Prague), and transportation (DPP, ROPID, IPR Prague, ETC). The proposals of two teams – Pavel Hnilička Architects-Planners and UNIT+A69+DUA+Land05+ONplan – were selected as the most suitable for the next phase of the competition. These two teams refined their proposals based on feedback and presented them to the jury at the final workshop.
“The area being addressed is a paradoxical place. Perfectly serviced by various modes of transport, yet with disrupted local relationships. In the geographical center of Prague 15, but lacking the attributes of an urban center. Along the ecological axis of Měcholupský stream, yet occupied by transportation areas. For a successful transformation of the place, it is necessary to properly combine seemingly contradictory goals: to restore the landscape axis and to create an intensive urban center. The combination of both elements brings a unique quality to the place. A vibrant square at the transfer hub and a quiet green council courtyard. Housing near the train station, while also overlooking a park. A place that is intensely urban, yet considerate to its users. A new center for Prague 15 with offices and services that you look forward to visiting.” This is how the authors describe their proposal, which they presented in detail during the festive announcement at CAMP.
A catalog summarizing the competition's progress and all submitted proposals was published. All information about the competition can be found on the website novecentrumhostivar.cz
