"Konieczny's Arch", or the personal house of Robert Konieczny, owner and leading figure of Polish architectural studio KWK Promes from Katowice, has received the award
Best Family House in the World at the Wallpaper* Design Awards 2017
The mountainous landscape of southern Poland has become a key inspiration for the design of the so-called Konieczny's Arch situated in the village of Brenna near Cieszyn. The building is located on a sloping site, which experiences frequent and dangerous landslides. The mass of the building, hovering above the terrain, allows water and mud to flow underneath the house without the possibility of damage. The very sensitively and tastefully managed mass of the house appears to observers as an abstract ship floating down the slope, like some mythical ark.
The award from this prestigious lifestyle magazine was decided by a jury composed of Amanda Levete (formerly Future System), Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, Ramdane Touhami, Laeticia Casta, and Tom Sachs. http://www.wallpaper.com/design-awards/2017#184975
