The subject of the competition was to develop an architectural-urban design for the cultivation of public space defined by the Labe and Forum shopping centers on U Kostela street, including the existing pedestrian link to Revoluční street, with a solution focusing primarily on the immediate surroundings. The solution addressed a proposal for multifunctional use of the space and assessed the share of market, leisure, or other functions. The design dealt with the functional and spatial arrangement of the area, including the placement of furniture and lighting.

1st Prize (80,000,-) Ing. Marie Hlavatá / Ing. arch. Josef Hlavatý, Ing. arch. Lenka Hlavatá Jury evaluation: The proposal situates a permanent market with the possibility of holding farmers' markets in the central part of the addressed area. The solution cleverly works with the sloping terrain. The market building has two height levels, thus eliminating the steps in front of the Labe shopping center and ensuring barrier-free entrances to both shopping centers. On both sides of the market, two alleys are created at different height levels - one higher in front of the Labe shopping center and the other on the existing terrain in front of the Forum shopping center. The lower alley along the Forum shopping center is passable for deliveries and cyclists and is lined with a row of mature trees. The avenue suitably contributes to the revitalization of the Forum shopping center's facade, complemented by benches and bike racks. The proposal accounts for the renewal of the glass facade of the Labe shopping center, including a direct dignified entrance from the addressed area. Part of the market building includes two smaller cafes with outdoor seating possibilities in cultivated front gardens, supplemented by greenery. The discreet building of the market has its own facilities and toilets. The jury appreciated the clean solution, evoking a sense of elegance and nobility which was also contributed to by the beautiful graphics of the proposal.
1st Prize (80,000,-) Ing. arch. MgA. Marek Přikryl / Ing. arch. Martin Prokš, MgA. Filip Kotlář Jury evaluation: A clear and effective proposal that thoroughly cleans and addresses the existing situation in the space, without using any unnecessary elements. The main point of the proposal is the reconstruction of the arcade space beneath the Labe shopping center, into which structurally independent sales stalls are inserted, featuring a new design. The area in front of the stalls is supplemented by a large awning, also self-supporting and independent from the structure of the Labe shopping center. The empty and clean space between the shopping centers remains available for flexible and arbitrary use for urban activities. The subject and purpose of the competition are very well covered. The proposal is realistic after resolving property rights issues and defining cooperation between the city and the owner of the Labe shopping center. The jury finds the proposal very beneficial for the Labe shopping center and maximally leverages its presence and existing sales form. The artistic and material solution of the ground floor is not detailed in the proposal, the depiction is not unequivocally understandable, the type of paving and details are not defined.
3rd Prize (40,000,-) Atelier KM(0) - Kilometrezero / Alvaro Garcia Mendive, Jan Kudlička Jury evaluation: The proposal works with the concept of modules, giving them various functions and forms. This brings many functions into the space and is expected to be attractive to a wide range of visitors. Similarly, this allows for variability in the space and its use during times when markets will not be held there. However, some of the proposed functions may not be feasible. Likewise, the number of modules with different functions is considerable, which can make the space seem chaotic and overcrowded at times. The proposal is fresh, effectively bridging the historic center of the city and the panel phenomenon of the city - through the used materials and the overall impression of the space.
Reward (15,000,-) Ing. arch. Martin Vlnas / Bc. Martin Duba, Bc. Tereza Komárková Jury evaluation: The proposal works with the history of the place and the connections of surrounding public spaces. This is transformed into the element of rails in the pavement, water elements, etc. The grid of the rails is derived from the structural grid of the Labe shopping center. The proposed solution brings variability to the addressed space, while the space is clear and clean. The design of the stalls is convincing.
Extra Reward (5,000,-) Ing. Miloš Strnad / Ing. arch. Štěpán Kotous, Ing. arch. Miroslav Kouba, Ing. arch. Jiří Kugl Jury evaluation: The proposal presents a clear concept in the form of a diagonal division of the main area into two approximately equal halves. This solution offers many advantages and surprising moments. The diagonal divides the area into two functional parts. The communication area in the form of a wide sidewalk on the Labe side and a relaxing resting area with mature trees on the Forum side. The wide sidewalk also serves as a ramp, elegantly leveling the different height levels of the area. The direction of the ramp corresponds to the most frequented pedestrian movement through the addressed area. The relocation of market stalls in the narrowing before the church square appears to be inspirational. The proposal convincingly documents the closure of the area towards the bus station with mature trees in the relaxing area. The cleaned and closed ground floor of the Labe shopping center for the purposes of the Wall of Artists is unconvincing. It creates a duplication of functions, as a wagon is also proposed for cultural purposes in the relaxing part of the area. The installed wagon is not entirely suitable for the proposed purpose of a "cultural laboratory" due to its limited universality of use, accessibility, and possibility of shape change and mobility. The use of this type of vehicle as a symbol in this location seems inappropriate and raises more doubts than understanding. The design completely lacks the appearance or idea of a sales stall. Stalls are proposed for a busy location where more demanding requirements for their appearance, mobility, and product display and sales methods need to be considered. The proposal should be categorized among very innovative ones that strive to address the task in a non-traditional way, while considering the feasibility of implementation.
