BIVAK IN THE SADDLE
Architectural Space
thesis supervisor: Ing.arch. Jan Mléčka

Staying in the mountains and hiking are among the beloved spirit-liberating activities of the Slovak, Czech, and Polish people. Standing on the spine of the world brings an uplifting feeling. Far from the vanities of everyday life. One fully realizes in the heights how insignificantly small and fragile they are.
Human vulnerability and high mountain nature easily count one’s courage and hesitation. Overestimating one’s abilities and strengths combined with sudden weather changes can lead to tense situations where even years of experience in the field may not help.
The structure located in the Baníkovské saddle of the main ridge of the Western Tatras combines the advantages of traditional mountain huts and climbing bivouacs. It serves as a short-term shelter in cases when summer storms and winter snowstorms on the ridge can deplete one's last remaining strength.

HOUSE OF ART ČESKÉ BUDĚJOVICE
Res Publica II
thesis supervisor: prof. Ing.arch. Ivan Ruller

The goal of the project was to explore the possibilities of various locations in the city of České Budějovice. Each partial design in these locations emphasizes the public spaces of the city and aims to enhance their quality.

Gallery at the confluence: House of Art in the Háječek - Sokolský island location
The building is located outside the historical center and works with the natural context. It utilizes the traditional element of a bridge, which is newly transformed into the shape of a circle. In terms of exhibition space, it is a free space on one floor that can be divided by partitions. The lighting is natural.
The roof is open, creating a symbolic gateway to the water. At the same time, access to the gallery is allowed from this side.

Gallery on the waterfront: House of Art in the Senovážné square location
The building closely neighbors the historical center, situated on the former city walls, now a free space. It works with the context of solitary buildings and block exhibitions, striving to create urban spaces.
In terms of the exhibition, it is a system of defined rooms across 4 height levels, differing in size, height, and type of lighting.
The basic premise of the design is to reveal the concealed watercourse - Mlýnská stoka and to maximize the potential for public space that this step offers.
In response to the challenging situation with parking capacities in the city center, the construction of an underground parking lot was implemented.

Gallery in the city: House of Art in the Hradební location
The building is in the historical center, inside a courtyard on the site of narrow Gothic parcels.
In terms of the exhibition, it consists of two large spaces on the top floor, naturally lit, which can be divided into smaller spaces if necessary.

RECONVERSION OF BUILDINGS 7,8,17,18 IN ZLÍN
The Future of Vacated Industrial Complexes
thesis supervisor: Prof. Ing.arch. Helena Zemánková, CSc.

Situation
The buildings are located between the northern boundary of the Zlín railway station yard and the bed of the Dřevnice River. From the east side, there is an access road. The western side of the area is defined by the Zlín heating plant buildings. These are a quartet of buildings that "stand" in the first and second rows of the former production facilities of the Baťa factories. This means that an imaginary axis runs through the center of this area from the river to the Náměstí Práce (Work Square). This axis is currently interrupted by the barrier of the station's track yard. Currently, the only way to access this area is to use the service road (left bank) that follows the riverbed's location. These are classic skeletal structures with a module of 6.15x6.15m. Over time, various extensions and appendages have been added to the buildings. Also, buildings number 8 and 18 have been supplemented with one above-ground floor. Currently, several companies operate here that engage in light engineering production and commercial spaces.

Design
The aim was to revitalize this entire "section" with new functions. First and foremost, emphasis was placed on transport accessibility and pedestrian availability. Given the planned reconstruction of the railway station, which relates to the level access to the individual platforms, I proposed an underpass below the railway station. This underpass services the platforms and also leads between buildings number 7 and 17. Assuming the construction of a bicycle path along the Dřevnice River, I proposed a footbridge across the riverbed. This created the possibility to transfer from the train directly to the bicycle. The buildings were removed of various extensions and additional constructions.
The objects are divided into two main types. Object no. 7 and 17 serve as barriers towards the station, while objects no. 8 and 18 are intended for student housing. In object no. 7, there is a parking house, and the remaining areas are commercial. Strengthening of the load-bearing structure is considered so that the object can serve these functions. In object no. 17, the lower floor also contains commercial spaces on the ground floor (supplies from the western side), while the remaining two floors are used for sports facilities. Reducing the central load-bearing structure creates a space over two floors and houses two gyms. Between these spaces, a storage room for sports equipment and a squash court are inserted. On the third above-ground floor, in the space above the storage room, a fitness center is located. In buildings no. 8 and 9, there are commercial spaces and a reception on the ground floor. The remaining two floors are for student accommodation. The objects are designed as corridor buildings with skylights over two floors. Balconies are also designed, thus creating greater dynamics while maintaining the original rhythm of the façade. The space between the buildings and the river is complemented by a park with a bike path along the riverbank and a footbridge across the river.
