The Architect of the Year 2022 award was won by Ladislav Kuba and Tomáš Pilař

Prague – The duo of Brno architects Ladislav Kuba and Tomáš Pilař has become this year's laureates of the Architect of the Year 2022 award, which is given for extraordinary contributions to architecture in the last five years. At today's announcement of the 14th edition of the award, the General Director of the National Heritage Institute Naděžda Goryczková received a commendation from the jury in Prague's Letňany. The Community Architect Award 2022 was awarded to Daria Balejová.

The jury stated that Kuba and Pilař, who have been collaborating for 26 years, are considered representatives of minimalism. "Their buildings are characterized by an unchanging high level of both exterior and interior, celebrating grand and monumental space, as well as detail. They also excel in the field of urban planning, and their ideas can be seen in the faces of several Czech cities," the jury added.

Among the successful architectural competitions, realizations, and awards of the Kuba & Pilař studio are, for example, the Faculty of Chemical Technology and Sports Facilities of the University of Pardubice, the residential complex Na Krutci in Prague 6, the Omega department store in Brno, the residential building on Kostelní Square in Ostrava, and the West Bohemian Gallery in Plzeň. Five of their buildings were nominated for the European Mies van der Rohe Award for Architecture, and they have received the Grand Prix of Architects award nine times.
