The company Autodesk, a global leader in 2D and 3D design software for manufacturing, construction, media, and entertainment, together with the "Student Union of CTU - Silicon Hill Club", announces the 1st annual competition titled “Technology and Nature”. The competition, which is part of the CADfest project, is intended for high school students and first two years of university students based on their year of birth - 1986 and younger. The goal is to create a design that reflects the connection between technology and nature in the specified competition category. Students have the option to choose one of four competition topics in Autodesk’s product categories – AutoCAD, Revit Architecture, Autodesk Inventor, and Autodesk 3ds Max.

Competition topics in 4 programs:
  • AutoCAD - the task is to create a project on the theme “What man has created, nature welcomes”, and to characterize the model and the reason for the chosen solution,
  • Revit Architecture - category titled “House and Tree” - the task is to develop an object that will be closely linked with a tree. The house in this project must be located either in a tree, under a tree, in a tree, around a tree, between trees, etc. The construction is not precisely specified, but it should be intended for living, i.e., family houses, hotels, etc.,
  • Autodesk Inventor. “The Power of Water” - the aim is to create a project for the efficient use of water power, design a machine for water or another product related to water,
  • Autodesk 3ds Max “Wildness After Class”- the goal is to create a scene of a school classroom after classes are completed, either neatly organized or reminiscent of a cleared battlefield.
“Autodesk develops a wide range of activities to make the most modern methods of teaching digital design available to students of Czech and Slovak high schools and universities. The Autodesk Academia program, in which we collaborate with the academic sphere at many levels, has become a vibrant platform for exchanging experiences and creating quality teaching methodologies. Today, this program is one of the most successful teaching support programs in Eastern Europe,” said David Palas, Country Sales Manager of Autodesk. “Silicon Hill, which joined the program last year and established a student training center at Strahov Dormitories, is one of the clubs under the Student Union of CTU, which takes care of the active use of students' free time and supports opportunities for their further education.”
“The competition is part of the “CADfest” program that we have created within the Silicon Hill club. We have prepared several events for students that will culminate with a two-day educational conference on March 14-15, 2009, at the CTU premises. The conference is intended for participants from any schools, and admission will be free,” said Karel Landa, administrator of Autodesk Academia Silicon Hill. “Currently, knowledge is one of the most important values for students who want to succeed in the job market and in the professional technical field. The CADfest project should help students further develop their skills and abilities in software design and computer literacy.”

Registration for the competition and submission of works will be conducted electronically on the website www.cadfest.cz. The deadline for applications is January 31, 2009. On March 14-15, 2009, the CADfest conference will take place, where the winners will be officially announced and prizes awarded. Authors of the best designs will receive prizes in the form of software from Autodesk and other tangible prizes. The jury will consist of representatives from the academic sphere, commercial companies, Autodesk, and instructors from the Silicon Hill club. Admission to the CADfest conference is free. Registration for the conference, accommodation for those from outside Prague, and more information about the CADfest project can be found at: www.cadfest.cz.
