The National Gallery in Prague has the honor of inviting you, as the project initiator and commissioner of the Czech participation at the 2023 Venice Biennale of Architecture, to participate in this competition for the national presentation, which aims to showcase the most innovative architectural and digital approaches at the most important international forum for contemporary architecture. The 18th edition of the Venice Biennale of Architecture will take place from May 20 to November 20, 2023.

The chief curator of the 18th Venice Biennale of Architecture is Ghanaian-Scottish architect, academic, and writer Lesley Lokko. The main theme of the architecture biennale is not yet known and will be presented on May 31, 2022, at 12:30 live stream. Although we allow participants a certain degree of freedom in choosing their own theme that will represent the national presentation and suitably take into account current geopolitical influences, globally addressed topics, and current trends in architecture, it will be an advantage if participants adequately respond to the main theme of the 18th Venice Biennale of Architecture with their chosen topic.

The subject of the contract will be the detailed development of the winning concept in two solutions for the Czech representation, under entirely exceptional circumstances and conditions compared to previous years, i.e., due to the reconstruction of the national pavilion, it will not be possible to use its internal exhibition spaces, and the exhibition must reflect this. The winner may be a collective of two or more authors, and the call for participation in the competition is aimed at architects, curators, graphic designers, or digital artists. Transdisciplinary author collectives from creative professions and teams that support diversity and gender balance through the composition of their collective are particularly welcome. The anticipated value of the contract is 400,000 CZK including VAT. This amount is also set as the maximum and non-exceedable bid price for the preparation of both concepts and the subsequent project documentation of the selected project.

Submission deadline for the competition proposal: June 27, 2022, no later than 8:00 AM.
