Biography
Mořic (Mauric) Grimm was a Baroque architect and builder of German origin. He came from Landshut in Bavaria but spent most of his life in Brno, where he realized the majority of his works. He gained professional experience in the domestic environment and in Austria. He first appeared in the territory of present-day Czechia in 1690, when he was recorded in the registers of the Prague Old Town masonry and stonecutters' guild. In 1704, he moved to Brno with his wife Voršila and son Jan Jakub, where he remained until the end of his life. He became a citizen of Brno, lived on what is now Kapucínské náměstí, and was buried in the Capuchin crypt beneath the monastery church of the Finding of the Holy Cross. Around 1750, he handed over the construction business to his son František Antonín, who continued with the construction activities along with his partner Bartoloměj Zintner.
