Biography
Ernesto Nathan Rogers studied architecture at the Polytechnic University of Milan in 1932. In the same year, he co-founded the architectural association BBPR with Gian Luigi Banfi, Ludovico Belgiojoso, and Enrico Peressutti, with their most famous project being the Torre Velasca tower house in the historic center of Milan.
After his studies, he edited the periodical Quadrante (1933-36). During his stay in Switzerland (1943-45), his interest in journalism deepened and he also became involved in the anti-fascist party Partito d'Azione. In the post-war period, Rogers became more active as a journalist, critic, and publicist. Upon returning to Milan, he worked as an editor for the magazine Domus (1946-47). From 1953 to 1965, he was the editor-in-chief of the architectural magazine Casabella. His journalistic skills helped to define the post-war architectural direction - Italian Rationalism. From 1962, he lectured at the Polytechnic University of Milan, where he later became a full professor (1964).
Ernesto N. Rogers was a distant cousin of the English architect Richard Rogers.
