Remind yourself of January 19, 2025 the legacy of Jan Palach through the annual light happening! Together we will create a light chain of over seven hundred meters long made of candles, which will cross T. G. Masaryk Square. We will meet at 4:00 PM under the Memorial of Tomáš Baťa in Zlín. The happening is invited by artist Petr Dosoudil and the cultural and creative center Live Zlín.
Candles will be available on site again this time, but you can bring your own white candles in containers or lanterns.
On January 19, it will be 56 years since twenty-year-old student Jan Palach died from the consequences of his protest against the occupation of Czechoslovakia. His sacrifice is a reminder of the resistance against lies, the distortion of people's characters, and other practices of totalitarian power. We will quietly commemorate this message and the importance of freedom with your help by lighting the candle chain.
In previous years, we have together been able to light hundreds of candles totaling more than 700 meters in length, creating the longest such chain in the Czech Republic.
