Modern glued timber composite materials are part of our lives. Sometimes we notice them, sometimes we don't, sometimes we overestimate them, sometimes we underestimate them, but their use in construction is clearly increasing. They are usually made from the same types of timber as traditional log constructions or timber beam buildings, but glued composites are designed and manufactured to be stronger and more durable. Wood has been used as a building material for a long time and is revered for its strength and natural aesthetics. However, there was a time in human history when it became necessary to look for higher quality and more stable wooden materials. Currently, glued timber composites serve as such an alternative. This lecture will present the most interesting of them, particularly their properties, appearance, and applications.
