Organizations Open House Praha and Krenovka invite you to another joint debate from the series Openly about Prague, which will focus this time on urban infill and the associated problems.
City growth cannot happen without new construction. On the map of Prague, we can find places that are already almost built up and where building anything new is only possible with great difficulties. In the historic parts of the city, new constructions are rising, which create huge controversies. However, the intentions of developers and individual builders are currently leaning more towards the wider center or the outskirts of the city. To what extent do such projects respect the interests of those who live in the given location? And how do long-term residents view new construction in their vicinity?
These are just some of the questions that will be raised in the panel debate on the theme of urban infill in the spaces of Čítárna Unijazz.
Panelists: • Michal Lehečka – social anthropologist working at the Faculty of Humanities at Charles University focusing on sustainable urbanism • Pavel Hnilička – architect, urban planner, author of territorial and regulatory plans, and publications Density and Economics of Cities or Settlement Chaos • Ondřej Prokop – representative of the capital city of Prague and Prague 11, an active politician long critical of plans to densify the South City • Jaromír Hainc – director of the City Development Section of the Institute of Planning and Development of the Capital City of Prague
The debate will be moderated by the instructor of year-round events at Open House Praha Michal Šedivý.
A video recording of the event is provided by the media partner of the debate, the portal ESTAV.cz and estav.tv.
