8th year of Open House Brno opens up mysterious places on May 17 and 18, 2025. It will focus on the legacy of the futureWhat urban and architectural treasures have previous generations preserved for Brno, what legacy will the present leave on the face of the city, and what can we imagine under the concept of intergenerational dialogue in architecture. These are the main themes of the eighth year of the architecture and urbanism festival Open House Brno with the subtitle Future Heritage.
„The city is a living and constantly changing organism with its residents, buildings, and spatial organization. Each generation leaves its mark on the shape of the city, and our ambition for 2025 is to draw the attention of festival visitors not only to valuable buildings, whose qualities have stood the test of time and have been recognized by heritage conservation, but also to buildings and public spaces that so far stand somewhat aside from attention. In the upcoming year, we also want to give space to people from creative professions to capture the genius loci of Brno and map the ways in which different generations of architects have reacted to each other, developed interesting solutions, or positioned themselves against their predecessors,“ explains the intentions of the festival's creative director, Lucie Pešl Šilerová from the Culture & Management Association. Although the Open House Brno festival has been negatively affected by the unexpected cancellation of the grant program Pro Kreativní Brno, the organization is not threatened for the upcoming year of the festival. The organizing team of the Culture & Management Association has long been and purposefully developing the principle of multichannel funding for the festival. „Although the cancellation of one of the grant programs is a significant loss, thanks to cooperation with other public and private partners and the involvement of hundreds of volunteers, visitors can once again look forward to approximately a hundred accessible locations and a rich accompanying program,“ assures the festival spokesperson, Vratislav Vozník. An inseparable part of the festival are the visitors – for some of them, Brno is home, while a considerable group consists of people coming from various corners of the Czech Republic and abroad, all of whom spend money on food, transport and accommodation. What is the visiting and consumption behavior of those who come to explore Brno's architecture. In May 2024, the organizers of the Brno festival, in collaboration with sociologists and partner festivals of the Open House Europe project, were also investigating this. Detailed commented results will be published in the first half of January 2025. Interested parties can follow the festival news on the website www.openhousebrno.cz and on social media instagram.com/openhousebrno and fb.com/openhousebrno. Already in January, the organizers will gradually reveal the program of the eighth year and the participating locations. The festival also falls under the global family of Open House Worldwide, which is a network of more than fifty metropolises across continents, where architecture festivals for the public are organized. The events held annually attract more than two million people worldwide. Brno has been a part of this network since 2018.
