The second speaker of this year’s November Talks will be Summer Islam – an architect and director of the architectural and research office Material Cultures, connecting design and material research. In her work, she explores the political ecology of building materials and the environmental implications of using regenerative materials. She has hosted as a lecturer at ETH Zurich and previously taught architecture at Central St Martins, UAL, London Metropolitan University, and the Bartlett School of Architecture at UCL. She is a PhD candidate in the RIOT lab at EPFL in Lausanne, where she focuses on research into decarbonized built environments that prioritize ecosystems over industry.
