The ice cream shop is located in the center of Brno on Minoritská Street in a monumentally protected burgher house with a long history. The ceiling is formed by an arch and is relatively small. This made it a greater challenge to organize all operations clearly. The task was to create a facility that includes a small background area (preparation) and a serving spot with freezing boxes.
The concept of the ice cream shop works with the history of the place, utilizing arches and vaults, and references the origin of the Italian product in the Czech setting. The preparation and serving space is separated by a glass partition. The person behind the glass thus becomes an alchemist, mixing and preparing the frozen delicacy. The serving counter, with its shape and texture (fluted cast from white concrete), refers to ancient Roman history and becomes a focal point of the space. The front is complemented by a built-in freezing box with cups that customers can take home.
A detail is the stainless steel sinks, fountains that resemble street fountains from southern states. Here, they serve for hand washing, while behind the bar they provide a third sink for hygienic requirements.
The space is a PLAY with three “O's”: reference, reflection, and arc. Each time, a different detail captures the person. Stop by!
