Traffic proposal: Ing. Jan Říha, Ing. Martin Rambousek
Green proposal: Ing. arch. Lucie KostkováMíru Street has become a term in Pardubice. It has been the center of Pardubice for years, starting at the Green Gate and ending at the now non-existent hotel Veselka (now the Magnum stands here).
The form of its reconstruction was the subject of long-term disputes and passionate discussions among both the city hall and the general public. Over the years, this promenade has declined, exacerbated by the construction of the AFI Palace, a shopping center in its immediate vicinity.
After a long thirteen years (competition in 2002), the project was successfully brought to realization. Its aim was to achieve a clear and coherent conceptual solution. The biggest problem – public transport – ended in a compromise, minimizing trolleybus transportation.
Míru Street has managed to regain its original significance, and from a thoroughfare, it has once again become a sought-after place for people to stay and meet. The Magnum Palace (2008) on the site of the former Veselka has returned an urban dimension to its forecourt. An informal small square has emerged here, which can be used for public events. The only thing missing now is the planned monument to aviator Jan Kašpar.
In the pedestrian zone, after half a year of operation, several shops and restaurants have been created or revived, and there are new café gardens, etc.
It is a great pity that the adjoining Republic Square with the East Bohemian Theatre, the Grand Shopping Center, and the Green Gate, as an important link between Míru Street and the historic Pernštejn Square, remains unresolved and continues to function as a traffic artery.
