File of state self-government buildings Zacatecas

The buildings of the self-government of the state of Zacatecas are located on the outskirts of the city near the airport, on a site known as “Cerro del Gato”. Previously, there were buildings for financial and judicial administration here. These structures are incorporated into a larger complex of self-government buildings.
The project is designed along two main axes that wind from the highest point of the plot. Here is located an architectural-sculptural work that serves as the focal point of the city. The buildings are situated on an elevated portion of the land, which naturally creates public space and shapes the relationship between the open area and the buildings creating a radial composition. The enclosing walls help integrate the buildings into the open space.
One main axis winds from the top of the plot to the entrance of the entire complex of buildings and is also the topographical axis of the land visible to the naked eye. An aqueduct was also designed along this axis, referring to the preserved urban aqueduct in Zacatecas.
The second compositional axis of the project also winds from the peak of the plot and gradually splits. One part leads to a terrace from which there is a view of the entrance to the self-government complex, and the other end of the axis leads to the square next to the health department building.
It is important to note that in the middle of these axes, we find public spaces and pedestrian zones that help to functionally connect the buildings. Moreover, they significantly enrich the landscape design by the studio EDAW. They create some of the best architectural and urban designs in the world. The designed squares refer to historical sites of the state. Here we find the square Santa Mónica, Altavista, and the square Plaza de la Quemada. Next to these spaces, there are also areas where local artists can display their works. Supporting young artists was also a motivation for creating a promenade lined with sculptures.
The complex of self-government buildings of the state of Zacatecas consists of the following structures: the building of the administration of the self-government unit, the building of the public prosecutor's office, the land office, the control office, the family affairs office, the public procurement office, the building of the health department, the school office, the community hall – auditorium, an outdoor theater, and a parking garage.
