already nice – urban space for meeting
Address: Lindengasse 53, Wien, Austria
Project:2005
Completion:2006
Area:180 m2

After the elegant urban restaurant schon schön located in the heart of the seventh district of Vienna opened, it quickly became a place that few would want to miss. The 180 m² space was filled with life by three friends who utilize the venue as a restaurant, a hair salon, and a tailor shop. The studio Sue Architekten designed a strong architectural concept for the restaurant part, creating the backbone of this island of baroque joie de vivre (joy of life).
The restaurant and the hair and tailor salon face the street, unobtrusively intertwining yet remaining very naturally separated. The restrained interior offers freedom, as well as a certain austerity that is essential for the rich creativity of the operators. To achieve the desired expression, we opted for a combination of quality wooden veneer and white Resopal laminate, which takes financial criteria into account. The choice of materials is meant to balance the friendly, inviting urban luxury of schon schön with the necessary reserved simplicity.
In the dining area, up to 22 guests can be seated at one table. This area focuses on communication and a joyful dining experience. A natural continuation of the program is the bar, which serves as a service unit for the table and also as a spacious counter for hurried espresso lovers and occasional connoisseurs of Italian Prosecco. The focal point of the hairdressing section is a single mirror – preventing any distractions from unnecessary accessories. The same approach applies to tailoring: one spacious table intended for consultations, sketching, pattern making, and sewing is placed next to a rack displaying a collection of prototypes.
Additionally, there are three colored spaces, sort of pockets, each serving one of the friends as a kitchen, a toilet nook, or a fitting room. These subtly present, yet visible niches emphasize the exclusive character of the hot urban spot schon schön through the acknowledged integration of diverse (usually “difficult” activities that often remain hidden from view). By opening and overlapping the service niches into working spaces, the processes essential for production or creation modestly offer themselves to the visitor's sight – and this very value creates the authenticity and charm of this place. Along with the relaxed joie de vivre of the owner, the concept culminates in an exciting mix of events that are often hidden behind the ephemeral lives of marketing tricks.

The basement of the space schon schön was additionally transformed by Sue Architekten into a bar Goldfinger.
